"Loneliness is the most corrosive thing to the human soul"

Coins.make.change is a charity dedicated to helping animals and humans living in conditions of extreme poverty on the streets of Birmingham and Great Britain today.

Save your coins : give them change

The photo above was taken by me on a freezing cold day on the streets of Birmingham in 2016. This picture could have been taken anywhere in Great Britain today.

What will the first target of £5000 be used for?

The first target of £5000 is to register coins.make.change with the Charity Commission... even if you can only give £1, remember, small coins make big changes.  Or you can tell a friend and simply spread the word for free.

What is the project for and why am I so passionate about it?!

Coins.make.change is a charity dedicated to Lee, well known to many daily commuters in Birmingham as ‘the homeless guy who lived outside of Five Ways train station’.

Lee always recognised people by their shoes and trainers and said he looked forward to seeing my bright yellow trainers jogging past in the morning. I always stopped for a conversation, a cigarette, sometimes some toast and coffee from the local shop. I saw many other people give Lee money, a blanket or a kind word in the morning.

I did raise enough money to pay for Lee to stay in some accomodation over Christmas and New Year 2016. I made sure he had some food, basic items and some cash to keep himself going over the lonely holiday period. However, it was not enough.

A few weeks ago, I was approached by a young homeless man on Broad Street (Lee had told him about me and he had recognized my bright yellow trainers). He said that Lee had died on 6 February 2016. For those of you who knew Lee, I am told he died of heart failure and that he was in hospital at the time.

Coins.make.change is dedicated to helping as many people like Lee, stop becoming people like Lee.

The Forget Lee Knot Bracelet

The pink ribbon symbol is used to raise awareness of Breast Cancer Research. I plan to use a bright neon yellow shoelace type material to make ‘Forget Lee Knot’ Bracelets to raise awareness of the coins.make.change project.

The Forget Lee Knot Bracelet can be worn on the ankle or wrist so they can be seen by anyone living on the streets.

The bright yellow Forget Lee Knot bracelet should be worn as a symbol for anyone living on the street to see that there is some hope for them, that...

 they are not alone

they are a real person

they have a real name

their life and death situation is not invisible to us.

This picture was taken by me last week, April 2016.

Please see my twitter feed @coinsmakechange to see pictures taken every day by me on the streets of Birmingham showing where your small coins are helping to make big changes in the lives of real people facing extreme poverty on our doorstep, today and everyday.

Can you spare any change...

I have put £5000 as a first target although there is no limit to the amount of funds this project needs. Please give as much as you are able to help make this project as successful as possible. You can pledge to give as much as you are able to by selecting the Pledge £1 option.

Please connect to me on Twitter @coinsmakechange and send the link to all of your friends.

Thank you for helping your small coins, make big changes.
