As a thank you to the #CloudesleyWardNurses for all their hard work, we would like to raise enough money to pay for their Christmas dinner and celebration at Gem on Upper Street in Angel.
It came to our attention that the nurses on the Cloudesley Ward, Whittington hospital, were paying upwards of £50 for their own Christmas party and this didn't feel correct—hard working nurses, that are often undervalued and doing thankless tasks daily having to pay for their own party.
This year we aim to raise £1000 to cover the cost of all the Cloudesley Ward nurses that want to attend the Christmas party so they don't have to raise their own personal funds. This will cover 30 nurses @ £30 a head + a little extra to spend on decorating the ward, a small contingency kitty should it be needed on the night and excess to cover extra people should they change their mind and want to join at short notice. Any excess money will be kept for future social events.
Please support this initiative and give a small donation to help cover the cost of the Cloudesley Ward Nurses' Christmas party. We want to save them from having to pay for their own Christmas whilst taking a stand against the fact that they have had to do so in the past and showing them that the community is grateful for all their hard work this year.
We wish we could pay for every nurse in the NHS to have a free of charge Christmas party but at this stage we accept that this is unobtainable—maybe in the future! At this point it feels achievable to raise enough money to cover 1 ward of 30 nurses. If we are successful (which we will be!) we will look to increase the amount of wards we support and fingers crossed roll this out to support other wards and hospitals.
We understand that there are similar scenarios out there that deserve our attention as a community but recognise that we can only do so much in this area. For that reason we are just looking to support NHS nurses at this stage and specifically Cloudesley Ward nurses in 2017.
Finally, a massive thank you to Gem, a lovely independent Turkish restaurant on Upper Street, Angel (http://gemrestaurant.org.uk/). They have very kindly given us a great deal and have helped to make this happen.
