Clear Lines Festival 2017 - Creating a space to talk honestly and openly about sexual assault and consent using the arts and discussion.

by Clear Lines in London, Greater London, England

We did it
On 17th November 2017 we successfully raised £3,320 with 71 supporters in 21 days

Clear Lines - The time is NOW to talk sexual assault and consent. To keep talking and join together for change. Real change.  Creating a festival in London exploring issues around sexual assault and consent through arts, discussion and debate. December 1st-3rd 2017.

In 2015 we were the first festival dedicated to opening up a space to discuss sexual assault and we need your help to bring the festival back this December 2017. Making it the best it can be, with more artists, new discussions and workshops AND a bigger venue, so more of YOU out there can be part of it and use your voice.

So what’s the ask? We need your help to raise £3,000 in 3 Weeks.

Ambitious and bold yes, echoing what we stand for as Clear Lines. We feel this topic is too important not to hold the festival and continue the conversation.

  • We’ve secured a fabulous new community partner with Rich Mix in central London
  • Confirmed some amazing contributors in
    • Tiff Stevenson
    • Dr Nina Burrowes - psychologist, author, activist, and co-founder of the Clear Lines Festival
    • Winnie M Li - Guardian’s Not the Booker Prize winner 2017, producer, activist, Clear Lines Festival co-founder
    • Angles: A different take on sexual and domestic abuse, a non-profit project managed by the charity On Road Media.
    • Nina Millns - Writer, Actor, Producer who's debut full-length play Delete is long-listed for the PapaTango award 2017 and will be performed at the festival!
    • On Road Media: Co-organisers and sponsors of the 2015 Clear Lines Festival, a charity dedicated to collaborating with the media and activists to improve coverage of misrepresented groups and social issues.
    • Disabled Survivors Unite
    • Tanaka Mhishi - Poet, Playwright and Performer
    • and many others are in the wings…

There will be laughter, debate, drama, discussion and the chance to participate in a variety of workshops alongside the time to simply stop and think.

And with YOUR help and contributions we can:

  • Secure our festival for 3 days. With events taking place from 2pm on Friday 1st December, followed by 2 full days of amazing sessions, arts, and performance events over the weekend. Yes, that’s both Saturday and Sunday! 12 noon to 10pm.
  • Confirm and book artists to participate within the festival
  • Secure leading commentators and panelists to our sessions.

Why are we doing this?

We're a small collective, driven by the urgency and need to have these discussions and shine a light on what is very much part of OUR joint reality and collective society. We are currently ALL volunteers but want to make this sustainable for 2017 and building into 2018 onwards. In London and beyond.

We challenge and voice the need for disclosure, openness and action. Standing alongside all those who are already championing a different way, a better way. The voices coming together to say #MeToo and the dedicated, unceasing campaigners and campaigning, including the upcoming 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence and #drawaline by UN Women, starting November 25th.

Please help us to have this conversation. We can't do this without you.

Thanks for your support, with gratitude, the Clear Lines Team.
