A portal, a power up, a pony up
Today is a weird day... bittersweet & quite overwhelming at times... it's so genuinely touching, beautiful and life affirming to read so many messages of support, love, good will & generosity from people who are backing Clare's Memorial Residency fund (that we worked on together, to set up before her death).
We've just passed double the initial target amount now, and it just feels so sad that she's not here to see it herself.
I imagine her wry smile, and the humble gratitude that she would express to see all of the love she projected out into the world being reflected back.
The title of this update "A portal, a power up, a pony up" is a line from a kind of make-shift manifesto that Clare & I both worked on as part of Sister Sister (a loose collaborative project by artists Rosie King, LOW PROFILE, Beth Emily Richards, Molly Rooke and Clare Thornton), thinking about self-supporting structures that artists might make together. It feels really apt today when reflecting on Clare's attitude to supporting the work of others, and your role as backers & contributors to Clare's vision for this residency project.
A massive thank you - onwards & upwards
Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who has contributed & shared the project today - I'm going to keep raising the "stretch target" for the campaign, to encourage others to get involved in the coming weeks, as Clare asked me to do. If you know anyone else who'd like to contribute, please do share the project with them.
All donations and pledges for rewards will go towards making the Clare Thornton Memorial Residency an even better experience for the supported artist.
With all my best wishes,
Rachel Dobbs - on behalf of The Clare Thornton Memorial Residency fund.
