Support our Feminist Theatre Collective to develop an Inclusive Community Arts program in Brighton.

New stretch target

An extra 1k will give our budget breathing room and allow us to support even more people with even more projects!

This will be the third year of Having our Voices Heard on stage, now we want to extend that opportunity to the people in our community who often feel silenced. In 2020 we will be developing + facilitating a Creative Freedom Scheme; offering workshops to engage local supporter service users in telling their story. We'll be partnering with venues and organisations to address Inequalities in the Arts so that we can champion the inclusive and accessible way forward that theatre needs. We'll continue to create a solid and sustainable foundation for our Home Safe Brighton initiative, empowering everyone to engage with night time Brighton.

We are Clap Back Club, a Brighton-based feminist collective reclaiming our right to respond to those telling us who we should be. A tight-knit group of writers, performers, musicians and creatives, we produce Fringe theatre and engage in the community to call out injustice against wxmen and dissect the powers that are used against us in society.

We're the makers of Love Letters to Rappers (Winner of the Brighton Fringe Audience Choice Award 2018), In Loving Memory of Pat Riarchy (Winner of the Brighton Fringe Audience Choice Award 2019), and the minds behind Home Safe Brighton.

This year we'll be performing In Loving Memory of Pat Riarchy again at Brighton Fringe, 14th-17th May 21:45 The Blockhouse @ The Warren. And a Bring Your Baby performance on 26 May 11:00 The Hat @ The Warren. We've got big dreams this year to use our platform in theatre for social change in our community! We're working to improve the support around social challenges and barriers, and encourage people who wouldn't usually attend theatre to come along! That's where the fundraising comes in - read on further for all the details on our mission to Support - Empower - Include.

We debuted as a theatre group in 2018 with Love Letters to Rappers; a radical response to pop culture's misogyny and an underlying call to divest from the patriarchy's pyramid scheme. After a five star response and successful runs in both Brighton and Edinburgh, we returned in 2019 with a sold-out run of In Loving Memory of Pat Riarchy: An evening of laughter, tears and song to give Pat Riarchy the send-off he deserves.

Last year we formed Home Safe Brighton as a community response to the growing number of sexual assaults. We provide a voluntary buddy system for people walking alone at night, supporting safeguarding in our immediate community (particularly LGBTQIA+ and womxn-centered events and organisations).

SUPPORT (local services)

This year we’ve worked with Survivors Network, RISE, Rainbow Hub, Survivors Movement. We’ve seen and experienced first hand how vital these services are. In 2020 we want to continue to champion these services through grassroots activism. As a community group we can use our voice without restriction, we can campaign for policy change and we can offer our skills to benefit these services.

EMPOWER (our community)

Each year we stand on stage and confidently voice the effects of gendered injustice. We do this because as a group we empower each other, and because society allows us to. There are thousands of people living and working in our community who don’t hold this power. It’s well documented how important creative therapy is for healing, and how under-funded the third sector is to be able to offer regular creative programs. Survivors of social injustice are so often silenced, we want to make sure they are heard.

INCLUDE (everyone)

In 2020 we will be touring In Loving Memory of Pat Riarchy as well as some new performances. Intersectional feminist theatre is an important form of activism and education. But as a relatively privileged activity, the people who really need to see, feel and hear it are very rarely sat in the room. This is down to cost, accessibility, isolation, confidence, fear... the list goes on. We’re committed to tackling this by partnering with venues and organisations who champion Art For Everyone. We also need funds to grow Home Safe Brighton so that we are able to support anyone who wants to attend Brighton Fringe 2020 in getting there.

Help us to keep on using our voices, talents and humour to call out the dangers of systematic oppression and damaging social attitudes, and highlight the feminist community as the inclusive and positive place it is!

Community Outreach = £1800
This will cover all inclusion + accessibility costs and charity partnerships. Plus training and resources for Home Safe Brighton + the Creative Freedom Scheme.

Fair & Equal pay = £1200
This will give us a boost with everything from writing and facilitating workshops, to rehearsing and performances. We believe in equal pay for wxmen, and that the arts and third sector are worth investing in - your donations will help us achieve that.

Theatre-making = £1000
We work hard to create theatre that empowers and inspires our community, and are completely self-funded. Your support will make a big difference in helping towards core costs and allow us to expand our reach!
