Boston Borough Council can no longer afford the £40,000 bill for Christmas decorations. Christmas 2016 was a disaster. Shoppers went elsewhere to get into the Christmas spirit. The atmosphere and mood of the town was dismal, sad and gloomy, with disappointment shared throughout the town.
This attracted media attention on a national scale. Newspapers were reporting Boston as the town Christmas forgot, again portraying Boston in a bad way. This added more weight to the low morale of the town’s population from previous bad reporting, causing more damage to Boston’s reputation in general. This kept many tourists and Christmas shoppers away.
Christmas is a special time. Boston needs the right atmosphere to create a Christmas for all to enjoy. A good display of Christmas lights in the town centre would help encourage the Christmas Spirit and give Boston the lift that the town needs. No one living here wishes to see a repeat of the poor display of last Christmas.
We are 'Christmas in Boston' a voluntary committee set up to focus solely on raising funds to light up Boston for Christmas. We aim to help make our town feel proud and happy by lifting the moral of everyone who lives here.
It would be fantastic to turn this around and show the media what our town can achieve with community spirit, by everyone taking part, working together and supporting this project.
If the entire population of Boston town donated just £1 each, we would have Christmas lights for many years to enjoy!
We look forward to everyone pulling together. The whole community, businesses of Boston, our college and schools, all community groups, everyone working together for the good of the town. This has the potential to demonstrate the true power of community spirit, the generosity of the people, our local businesses and everyone living in Boston.
Please donate as little or as much as you can, to help us to make our town ‘Proud’ and to become a wonderful place to celebrate Christmas. Let’s all pull together to give Boston the real spirit of Christmas it deserves, not just for this year, but for many years to follow.
