Having grown up with a love for the ocean, I strongly believe in doing everything possible to help protect the marine environment and save its ecosystems. One of the main causes of pollution in our waters is down to plastic, with thousands of marine animals being harmed and killed by our waste each year.
Thanks to programmes such as 'Blue Planet II' helping to highlight the issue, it has raised awareness Worldwide as to how severe the situation has become.
I believe one of the best ways to change our overall attitude towards using plastic, is to highlight and talk about the issue with children, who will inevitably be the ones to suffer when our coral reefs and marine animals are no longer around for future generations to enjoy.
I have used my experience of creative writing to produce a story told through an interactive poem, that addresses the issue of ocean plastic pollution in a fun and educational way. During the story, we meet different sea creatures (turtle, seal, whale, puffer fish, crab) who have all been affected by plastic in some way, and are able to give simple advice on how to stop our oceans becoming full of plastic to save the lives of others.
The book will not only give parents and families with a great way of discussing the issue with children, but also provide schools with an important topic of conversation.
Unfortunately, self publishing a book has large costs involved, and whilst I am hoping to cover the majority of it myself, I am looking to raise some funds to help out with illustration and publication charges.
Any support to bring my story to life and help raise awareness of such a big problem is massively appreciated!
