My mother, who sadly passed away suddenly on Wednesday 3rd April aged 82, was plagued throughout her life with severe mental health difficulties, largely the consequence of traumatic and damaging early childhood experiences. In the modern day her experience would've been recognised as a symptom of an emotionally abusive parental relationship. The impact of those experiences had a significant and, in later life, defining impact upon her life.
Working in schools, as both Chris and I do, we often see children distressed as the result of dysfunctional relationships and mental health support can be key to ensuring that these relationships do not define who children turn out to be. Therefore, in my mother's memory, I would like to raise money for the Anne Freud National Centre for Schools and Families who work with deeply troubled children and families to address significant mental health difficulties.
