Imagine at this time of year if you could give and help save a vulnerable woman in Crisis. I have some friends who are doing just that in Coventry.
For over 7 years they have encouraged and supported women escaping abuse, domestic violence, addiction, and prostitution.
They are a registered charity that offers personal, practical support, ongoing friendship and mentoring, mainly through volunteers and a project worker.
I know stories of how children haven't been taken into care because of the support these mothers are given by this charity.
They not only give hope to women and children on the margins of society, they enable them to begin to walk away from life-controlling situations that keep them in bondage. Cherished Hearts call this JOURNEY TO FREEDOM.
They want do even more to support these women by buying a house they will call the 'House of Hope', where women can join a residential programme, giving the support and tools they need to break free from a destructive cycle of behaviour. They are working on an effective model that places this programme firmly at the heart of the local church and community. Thereby enabling the women to access relationships that will continue beyond an 8-month programme. The church they partner with is Mosiac Church, Coventry https://www.mosaicchurch.co.uk/cherishedhearts
You might not have much but I want to tell you a story of someone who didn't have much, there was a little girl called Hattie May Wiatt who lived near a church in Philadelphia where the Sunday school was very crowded so she couldn't get in! The pastor told her one day they would have a building big enough for everyone. Sadly Hattie became ill and died, that Pastor was asked to take her funeral and was given by her mother the money Hattie had been saving for the bigger church - 57 cents. He turned those into pennies and sold them, he made about $250 and 54 of them were returned. That $250 bought a house for Sunday school and the first classes of Temple College which became a university were held in that house. It was later sold to allow the University to grow and found the Good Samaritan Hospital (now the Temple University Hospital).
I was given a challenge by www.thelions.org.uk to multiply £20 into as much money as possible for the charity 'Cherished Hearts' in Coventry who are doing great things with very little for vulnerable people. I felt £0.57 of this I should change into penny's like in Hattie’s story and sell them for £20 each.
I also felt that I should produce gift certificates for £10 each that you can give as gifts instead of presents showing that a gift has been given to this charity instead helping save vulnerable women.
I am also an Estate Planner (STEP Associate) so am happy to write a will for anyone willing to give £50 or more. www.mccarthyandnunn.com
