We are a small society based in darlington with only 10-12 members been fully active. We preserve railway artifacts either built in darlington or worked in and around darlington. The peckett was built in 1953 and was built for the darlington gas board which is the company that named it northern gas board number 1. It became part of the darlington railway preservation societys collection in 1982 which is when its first overhaul was carried out by the society ever since then it ran in darlington on open days on the small running line we have based in darlington. for the past 3 years the peckett has worked at the cholsey and wallingford railway however due to the age of the loco there has arisen a few faults with the locos boiler the boiler requires two new plates to be welded and rivited in the front and back of the firebox these also require drilling and new copper stays fitting. However due to the society been so small we have turned to new means of trying to raise funds for such work to be carried out so that the loco can once again be returned to steam.
