The Chellaston Residents' Association (CRA), a non-profit organisation, is working in partnership with Chellaston Community Association (CCA) to promote the establishment of a Community Garden within Chellaston District Centre.
The CRA has been instrumental in developing the 'Chellaston-in-Bloom' initiative and its volunteers are actively involved in the upkeep of small public areas within and around Chellaston District Centre.
In conjunction with Chellaston Community Association (CCA) plans have been developed which would see the demolition of the disused public conveniences and the formation of a Community Garden.
The garden design, which would face shopping outlets on High Street, would include the retention of some of the stone block flower beds together with the creation of an entrance flower bed, a centrally located walled circular garden bed and a rear retaining wall all formed using natural sandstone. On three sides of the garden, fixed seating would be provided, along with the introduction of a Community News Information Board towards the rear of the garden and litter bins.
Also, it is planned to display some public artwork on the rear wall and entrance archways, and in addition install an interpretation board reflecting the history of Chellaston all of which would significantly enhance the area for residents and visitors.
Chellaston Community Association has obtained a lease for this area from Derby City Council and furthermore the partnership has obtained planning permission to create the Garden.
Our partnership has received some financial support towards this project through a S106 public open space allocation and the Neighbourhood Board and is now engaged in trying to attract further funding from various major grant funders.
We have now established this Crowdfunding initiative in the hope that we can attract some funds from local businesses and the general public for this worthy addition to Chellaston which will enhance the central area which currently lacks a focal point.
The garden is planned for 2022 providing the partnership can attract the necessary funds to enable the project to move forward, so our crowdfunding appeal is key to making this happen. We look forward to your support and all contributions, however small, will be welcomed and acknowledged.
