Hello Ocean Lovers!
I’m raising money to contribute towards hosting an educational community screening of the award winning film Chasing Coral which will take place on 19th February 2019 at Stanley Halls.
I believe awareness and education is the driving force behind big change in regards to the future well-being of our planet’s incredible coral reefs. This is why I am keen to bring the film Chasing Coral to the attention of the landlocked masses in London! I feel people in my local community, and greater London, are tuning in to the topic of plastic pollution, and hopefully this film will prick their ears up to the urgent plight of coral.
Why are coral reefs important?
Coral reef ecosystems support 25% of marine life in the oceans, providing a living foundation for many beloved species to thrive. However the challenge goes deeper than just protecting coral reefs for the sake of the creatures living there. We ourselves rely on healthy coral reefs for many reasons, from fisheries to tourism to protection from adverse weather and more. Coral reefs all over our planet are currently under threat from mass bleaching and extinction driven by unsustainable human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels. It is imperative that we take action to protect them, especially at this pivotal point in regards to global warming.
Where will your donations go?
This charity screening of Chasing Coral is a passion project of mine. The funds raised here will be going directly into the hire and promotion of the chosen venue Stanley Halls, which means in essence you are contributing to helping me host a wonderful event that will educate people of all ages and inspire them to get involved. The screening will be free however donations at the event will be graciously accepted and go towards two charities: the Chasing Coral charity and Project Coral based at the Horniman Museum and Gardens. After the venue hire goal is reached I will open up a platform in which you can contribute to these two fantastic charities directly if you wish.
Edit: I've extended the fundraiser beyond the £330 goal for venue/promotion costs, and all remaining money will go towards the chosen charities! Hooray for hitting the initial target ????
By being an advocate for coral, an unassuming but totally fantastic, living foundation for marine life, you are directly impacting an entire ecosystem in a positive way. This is a free event open to anyone who wants to learn more, so please donate and join us for the screening of Chasing Coral at Stanley Halls on the 19th February!
