Changing The Game UK are hoping to raise £7500 to Provide support, to those suffering with mental health issues.

by Changing The Game UK in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, United Kingdom

I created Changing The Game UK to try and prevent anyone else ending up where was; alone, depressed and not wanting to wake up.

Christmas day 2018, I tried to take my own life. Ever since then, I have done whatever possible to help others, which in its self, helps me.

My journey started through volunteering with NUFC Foundation. I found that sharing my experiences and opening up on how it felt to admit I needed help was beneficial to others and because of this, I continued to share my story. Fast forward 12 months and I received the "Highly Commended Award" at the NUFC foundation dinner, for my input to their mental health campaign #BeAGameChanger.

After parting ways with the foundation, I was still sharing my story and finding ways to help people. We have produced a number of interviews that highlight the concerns and risks that come from ignoring depression and  we are growing every day. I have self funded the production of these interviews and also funded numerous good deeds.

As we are now operating under a charitable constitution with three trustees, we are in a position to grow our charity and help more people.

If we are able to raise £7500, I will use it in the following ways:

  • Provide professional support to people on NHS waiting lists for counselling and therapy, through our network of qualified practitioners.
  • Develop more interviews to raise more awareness that there is nothing wrong with depression or other mental health related illneses.
  • Host peer support events with guest speakers and signposting for additional support services

To date, we have reached over 60 thousand people with our YouTube videos, grown our Facebook community to almost 1000 and have a waiting list of people who are needing further support.

We have a number of interviews and messages available on our YouTube channel.
