The objective of the 2019 Salvation Army Housing Association Venture to India is to take a selected group of young people with complex needs to engage with local communities in India, with the aim of delivering a challenging and rewarding venture. We aim to offer young people who live in supported accommodation similar opportunities to those who reside within the family home. We all work in 365 day a year projects that are staffed 24/7. Young people residing within the service have experienced challenges that demonstrate their resilience but they may not realise this. Our staff teams work hard to unlock the potential within every single young person and aim to create an aspirational living environment coupled with opportunities that educate, inspire and develop. The group will experience physical and emotional challenges, new cultures and environments to enrich their lives. They will learn about community, culture and wildlife conservation. This venture will enable a variety of outcomes such as a better understanding of their capabilities, identification of skills, management of wellbeing, developing self-assurance, self-reliance, resilience, raising aspirations and a much broader knowledge of culture and diversity. Inspiring a desire to take some action with the knowledge they will gain during this challenging international venture is also a key outcome for this once in a life time experience in India and one that can be transferred back home. During the trip the young people will experience the way of life in cities Delhi and Agra, and travel to remote and rural villages in the foothills of the Himalayas where they will support local communities and engage with a local school. This will be an incredibly life enhancing experience for every single member of the venture who is undertaking their own journey of discovery within their supported accommodation stay. Any money that you can donate will be gratefully received to enable this project to become a reality.
