The London-based Centre for Kurdish Progress, as a not-for-profit organisation is planning to hold its annual Newroz Celebrations and Most Successful Kurds in Britain Awards for the Kurdish New Year this March to highlight the many achievements of the Kurdish community in the UK and the great contributions it makes to British society, business, art, academia, journalism and politics. Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott MP will be hosting this event on 15th March 2017 at Portcullis House in the British Parliament.
By celebrating this event in the British Parliament, the Centre aims to raise the profile of British Kurds and promote interest in Kurdish affairs and issues among the British public more widely.
This event offers a great opportunity for both Kurdish and non-Kurdish members of the public to meet, network, exchange ideas and celebrate with politicians, community and business leaders, journalists and others free of charge. Last year’s celebration was even attended by Labour Party Leader Jeremy Corbyn and other politicians from the Conservative, Scottish National and Labour Parties.
Although attendance of the event is free, there are some organisational costs that the Centre needs to cover, and as a not-for-profit organisation, we are reliant on the donations of our supporters, who will be able to continue to benefit from our work as a result.
These costs are mainly for catering and the publishing of the upcoming Kurdish Progress annual magazine that will be distributed as a complimentary gift to attendees at both the event and at subsequent events (all of which are attended for free). We hope to see you at the event, which will be even better with your support.
