Catford Arts have exciting plans for 2017. An even bigger and better Arts Trail with more workshops and activities plus the development of a community art gallery available for hire for exhibitions and events by local artists and makers.
Following on from the first successful year of Catford Arts in 2016, the team of 6 local artists intend to take the project to a new level by opening and running a gallery – Catford Arts Gallery– in a highly visible site in central Catford, available for use for community arts events and weekly hire by local artists and makers. After initial set up the gallery will run on a not for profit basis charging low fees for hire to cover running costs and maintenance to enable it to work towards becoming a self-sustaining community resource.
Feedback from last year’s Arts Trail was overwhelmingly positive registering 9,170 visits to venues over the two weekends with an average of 83 visitors per day per venue. So many visitor comments highlighted not only the variety and excellent standard of the art on display but also the generous and friendly welcome they received being invited into people’s homes and businesses. We have regular requests for more in 2017 and a growing list of artists and hosts waiting to take part.
We also had repeated comments on the positive feeling of togetherness and community generated by the Trail both between the artists and hosts taking part and the visitors themselves. The Trail brought together participants and visitors of all ages and backgrounds and put art in Catford on the map.

Catford Arts is encouraging a growing number of local artists and makers together with those interested in developing and promoting the arts in Catford to come together and create a coordinated community based arts group. Pooling the vast range of local skills, knowledge and experience we can support each other and provide a network to facilitate new and interesting ways of working with the community.
The new gallery space will enable the project to expand further, providing more local opportunities for artists to show work and the community to enjoy and engage with it. We hope to play our part in the exciting development of Creative Catford!
