England ladies Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships Canada 2016
My name is Andrea Smith, I have been give the opportunity to compete in the 2016 Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships at Mount Tremblant Canada as part of the Commonwealth England Ladies Team.
I am very excite that i have been give this opportunity and shows that even a relative new comer to the sport, can achive great things with the help of friends and hard work.
The Compitition
Canada the host Nation for the 2016 Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships and along with the local organiser Les Moucheurs EnDiablés flyfishers will welcome us to Mont-Tremblant Quebec Canada.
There will be 16 teams, approx 80 competitors from across the commonwealth, both ladies and men's teams will fish rivers and lakes. The event will be held from 28th of August to the 1st of September, with the week before the actual competition being practice sessions.
There are 5 sessions over two and a half days, the river sessions will be held on the spectacular riviere du Diable which will be divided into 2 distinct sectors. The lake sessions will be held on 3 lakes.The river holds wild and stocked Brown and Brook Trout, and the lakes hold stocked Rainbow and Brook Trout.
Promoting key values friendship, camaraderie and enjoyment. The motto being “Fishing in Friendship”.
With no corporate sponsorship, I am looking for support to help fund the training and trip.
My fishing background
I took up Fly Fishing fairly recently and have progressed relatively well.
- Qualifying as a coach in 2015,
- Voluntering for casting for recovery (Breast Cancer Charity).
- Mentoring youngsters on the Angling Trusts Talent Pathway.
This will be my first experience at fishing in a commonwealth competition and I feel very honoured to have been given this opportunity.
