Carlton Crotchets were established in January 2019 as part of the Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band organisation. The group was formed by a playing member of Carlton Main, Toni Durrant who's vision was to build a Junior Band by providing free music lessons for children in the local community of South Elmsall and surrounding areas.
The lessons not only give the children an opportunity to learn an instrument as opportunities are cut in schools due to funding. It also has helped to build a new community group that adds to South Elmsall's identity. Members of the Carlton Crotchets joined Carlton Main in this years Remembrance Parade, both marching and laying a wreath at the Cenotaph. They will also proudly join Carlton Main to perform for the first time in public this Christmas at a concert in the local community which will be a very proud moment for all involved.
The Carlton Crotchets are based in the same building as Carlton Main which is one of the original Colliery buildings. The facility has a lot of history and identity but needs refurbishment for the long term future but also to give Carlton Crotchets a warm, inviting and friendly space to be proud of. The money we are applying for would be to continue a project of refurbishment that began this Summer by volunteers from Carlton Main to build a fantastic future for the Carlton Crotchets!
