“When the equipment stops working, we don’t just lose a machine. Somebody dies”
Coronavirus is placing a massive strain on our health service, and it’s not just the staff that are overworked. Equipment needs a rest too. Healthcare systems around the world are experiencing the strain, and they need machines, spare parts and supplies to save lives.
Last week a hospital in Brescia, Italy, had problems getting hold of spares for essential equipment. A local offered to help, and a few hours later had redesigned the part and were 3D printing spares for respirators. Direct action saved lives.
With the unprecedented demand for our resources, this situation will only get worse
How can you help
We’ve started. We are pooling resources to make parts and repair equipment for the NHS. But we need more equipment
We have the human resources, but we need more specialised hardware to really make a difference.
The strength of Additive Manufacturing and Desktop Engineering is the relative ease and speed of deployment. A CO2 laser can be cutting face-masks and Perspex face shields within minutes, a 3D printer forming venturi valves within hours and a CNC milling machine producing complex assemblies within days.
100% of all donations go towards buying the equipment and materials we need.
- All the manpower is free; donated by caring individuals.
- Each part we make is a life potentially saved
