I worked and lived in a community outside Praia, Cape Verde. This community feeds its last animals on paper and cardboard. They have to drink partially desalinated water - that's all they can afford, I had to bring my own safe water. Families live in tin shacks or crumbling buildings. Very few have any employment, a good job enables a family to feed itself but only with very poor imported food. With support they can rebuild their village, secure local food growing and secure clean water.
The rehabilitation centre houses men who were addicted to drugs and alcohol. The only accommodation is in tents. Funds will go towards building robust accommodation units that can cope with the heat and better quality tents.
