Willy’s Adventure is a young, growing, tourism company and 2020 was supposed to have been the year where the growth of the business would reach a new level. There is no doubt that the current pandemic has hit every country hard. With the international travel bans the tourism industry has been particularly badly hit, making its future very uncertain. And for someone running a small independent business within the tourism sector, the future is even more uncertain.
The prospects of keeping the business open, without our usual flow of customers booking tours and trips, are very slim. Although the current circumstances have been a major setback, we are not giving up and we are doing everything we can to be able to resume business as *somewhat* usual, as soon as possible! So that we can continue to show our customers everything this beautiful country has to offer; the culture, the wildlife, the nature. So that we can continue to work with schools and universities abroad, organising educational trips for their students to travel to Rwanda. As well as hopefully launch an educational program for Kigali’s young adults who has lived, or are currently living, on the streets.
The aim of the educational program is to provide young adults with skills that will enable them to enter a job market - especially within the tourism industry. Skills such as English, customer service, and insight on how to run a business. Ensuring that they are given relevant tools and enough knowledge to support themselves and have an opportunity to build their life away from the streets. Willy Mutabazi, the owner of Willy’s Adventure, having lost both his father and twin brother in the genocide in 1994, found himself surviving on his own at the age of 8 when his mother fell into a coma. For four years Willy fought for his survival on the streets of Kigali and faced a similar reality to many kids, teenagers and young adults today. Recognising the help he was given from the organisation that took him in from the streets, as well as the individuals who played a huge part in enabling him to start building his future, he now finds himself in a position to help people who has gone through the same struggle. So the successful launch of the educational program lies very close to heart for him.
We are now hoping that we can raise enough funds for the business to survive. So that we can make sure we will still be here to welcome You to our beautiful country as soon as we can. And so that we will be able to help young adults get away from living in the streets.
