I am sorry to ask but I need your help. After 20 years at the wonderful West End Centre I left and set up Kick Arts in 2019, a self-employed venture to help artists and venues; managing, tour booking, promoting, advising and working on events. Just as it was taking off COVID-19 hit and the live industry was devastated. As a new business almost all my income dried up overnight and it looks like it will be months if not years before it the industry recovers. I don't want to give up on Kick Arts, but money is tight.
Obviously lots of people are struggling so please don't give if that is the case for you, or if you'd rather give to struggling artists, venues, roadcrew, nurses or anyone else. However if you'd offer me a drink when you see me, or feel I have helped you in anyway, or are just feeling kind - this is a good time to contribute! We have 3 months money saved, have taken a mortgage holiday and I've applied for nightshift supermarket jobs, so it isn't desperate yet but it is scary. I am one of many who fall through the government measures - it seems the business is too new to qualify for the 80% grant and we can't get anything from Universal Credit.
I always knew starting a new business would be hard - I just hadn't reckoned on it being this hard! I hope you and yours are safe at this terrible time, Barney
