Can you help Alicia to experience the great outdoors?
I am hoping to raise £3295 in order to purchase an off road wheelchair for my work colleagues daughter, Alicia. (Specifically the Mountain Trike Push – all terrain buddy wheelchair from mountaintrke.com/products/mt-push ). This would enable Alicia to enjoy adventures and excursions with her parents that are sadly unavailable to her with her current standard wheelchair.
Alicia is 18 years old and has severe autism, Downs syndrome and brain damage which has left her with a mental age of between 6 to 36 months. She is unable to walk any more than a few yards and tires very easily.
Despite her difficulties, Alicia loves to be outdoors and enjoys the sights and sounds of the countryside. However, she only has a very heavy standard wheelchair which is totally unsuitable for tracks, rough terrain, beaches or grassed areas which means that her parents are very limited as to where they can take her. Alicia’s parents also both have physical ailments which affect their ability to push her in her current wheelchair so a lighter chair would benefit the whole family!
Sadly there is no funding available to Alicia as she is too old to get help from children’s charities but too young to be assisted by help groups for the elderly. However, with your help Alicia could get a wheelchair that would change her life for the better, allowing her to have family adventures in the countryside and to do the things the rest of us take for granted. I’m afraid that there are no rewards available to donors as I need every penny for the wheelchair but rest assured you’ll feel great about the fact that you’ll have brightened up Alicia’s life immensely.
