We would like to create a tradition family farm business by starting a small sustainable dairy farm where all milk is processed on farm and sold directly to the public.
We aim to sell some of the milk directly via our very own milk round, so people in the Caithness area can wake up to some luxury fresh Jeresy milk on their doorstep. The rest of the milk will then be lovingly turned into a rich milky ice cream by my wife and our cheif taste tester who happens to be our three year old daughter. The ice cream we would be looking to retail this to the cafes and resturants in the local area.
As well as the making of ice cream and the milk deliveries it will be all hands on farm work. We plan to milk the cows once a day in the morning (getting up at 5am to do this will be my job) the rest of the girls day will be spent grazing, drinking, lying down and socialising.
Throughout the year we will be having open days to allow people to see where their milk comes from and how the cows are looked after as we want people to become more connected with where their food and drink comes from and the effort that is put in to produce it.
With the money we hope to rasie it will help us purchase the start of our Jersey herd, the milking parlour and pasturising equipment.
