What is NEON?

NEON is Caged Bird Theatre's touring production through Summer 2018, written by Patrick Swain.

EXETER: 4th June 2018, 2pm & 5:30pm

NOTTINGHAM NEW THEATRE: 17th June 2018, 5pm

THE LION AND UNICORN THEATRE, LONDON: 6th - 8th August 2018, 4:30pm

Jude, a therapist in England, meets a man named John Doe who claims to be God. He seems to be just a deluded recluse, living with a normal flatmate and enjoying Capri Suns. That is until Thomas arrives from America with visions of a strange man in his flat. The laurel-wreath necklace around the stranger’s neck seems all too familiar, and Jude finds herself caught up in the birth of a new religion.

How did we get here?

NEON has been a project over a year in the making, inspired by the lyrics to Simon and Garfunkel’s ‘The Sound of Silence’: ‘And the people bowed and prayed / To the neon gods they made’. Neon explores loneliness, death and transcendence, and the potential to find faith in the unlikeliest of spaces. Development of this production began in Exeter, continuing to Nottingham in June, and London in August as part of the Camden Fringe Festival.

Who is Caged Bird Theatre?

Caged Bird Theatre is an emerging theatre company founded by Jasper Frost and Patrick Swain [pictured below]. They first collaborated on Swain’s play ‘Michael’, which received outstanding reviews. Since then, Swain has continued to write plays such as ‘Chuffed to Bits’, while Frost has gone on to direct at the OSO Arts Centre, as well as found space performances such as James Fritz’s ‘Ross and Rachel’.

Where will your money go?

Your money will go towards the production as a whole, supporting the cost of Venue Hire, Camden Fringe Registration, and publicity.
We thank you in advance for your support on this project; it means the world to us, and we cannot wait for Camden Fringe Festival!

Your money won't go towards any accommodation or travel costs for Cast or Crew!
It will only be used to further the production, not those involved.
