Cadenza, Cambridge University's premier a cappella group, needs your help to raise money to record their first album!

Our Story

Cadenza is Cambridge’s premier a cappella group. Since its inception as a thirty-strong jazz choir in 1997, Cadenza has developed into a multiple-award winning group, becoming Voice Festival UK (VFUK) University champions in 2012. Made up of students studying in Cambridge, the group has become known for their beautiful arrangements and striking choreography, as well as a unique sense of humour and jaw-dropping mashups. After a few years of relative isolation in Cambridge, the group launched itself back into the UK a cappella scene in 2016, reaching the finals of VFUK in 2016 where they won an award for Outstanding Musicality, and the UK Semi-Finals of the prestigious International Competition of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCAs) in 2017, placing them amongst the best a cappella groups the UK has to offer.

We were overwhelmed with the reaction to our debut single, Thrill of the Uptown Freak (2016), and we were honoured that our music video was awarded runner up in the Best Mixed Collegiate Video Category in the CASA Video Awards 2017. This experience was so amazing that we now want to record the group’s first album, showcasing the best arrangements that group has performed over the last few years. However, the substantial cost that this requires is beyond what we as a group can raise by ourselves. Therefore, we need your help to raise the £3000 that we need to record a five track EP that showcases the very best of what we can do. The group will be performing at private events, May Balls and busking to raise as much as we can, but we are reliant on your generosity to make our dream a reality! Should we raise more than the £3000 we need we will (after collectively hyperventilating and then fainting) use the proceeds to help fund our debut run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer.

We plan to record with the amazing Webb Street Studios, who not only recorded our debut single and music video, but are the leading a cappella producers in the UK at the moment.

If you like what you hear, then we would be immensely grateful if you could share this with your friends; whether on social media, chatting over a coffee, or by carrier pigeon! Thank you in advance for your support!
