2019 is the 10th Anniversary of Barnsley Youth Choir and as well as celebrating we have also looked carefully at what we have achieved and in which areas we need to do more. We now see 450 singers each week, are training many of our senior members to mentor and conduct rehearsals and are supported by 90 volunteers.
Our latest post code research of members shows we do not attract singers from the poorest areas of the Borough. This project aims to reach children in theses areas to offer them the opportunities that all our singers enjoy.
When we reach the first target we will have trained our singing coaches and be ready to engage with fifteen schools in the most deprived areas of the Borough, potentially working with 1,500 children. The stretched target allows us to take singing into another seven schools and with each £150 over target we raise it means we can visit another school.
In total there are 77 schools we could visit, approximately 10,000 pupils, and with your help we hope to get to 30% of these during the 2020 Spring term.
