The aim of my project ‘bwoys’ is to highlight & focus on Caribbean creatives and tackle issues that affect our community.

Hey guys my name is Ramario chevoy, I’m a freelance stylist, model & dancer. I set up my personal project titled ‘bwoys’ in 2017 as I felt there was & still is a lack of representation of Caribbean creatives. Part one of ‘bwoys’ was released in September of 2017 & was featured by Afropunk online and got a really good response, there was no set theme for part one it was just a bunch of my favourite Caribbean creatives being highlighted. Part two of my project was released in April of 2018 & again was featured by Afropunk online & again got a even bigger & better response than the first one. For part two I decided to look at dancehall street party culture & pay homage to one of my all time favourite dancehall dancers Mr wacky aka Bogle. Being a dancer it was important for me to incorporate movement & dancehall being the main style of dance I do it was important for me to include it the second time around. I’ve just recently finished shooting part three of my project which should be released soon, it touches on the subject of toxic masculinity within the Caribbean community & the affects it has on people’s mental health. For part four I’m planning on basing it around the windrush generation and how it still affects so much of us today. With the money raised it will be used to cover the cost of the ship/boat I plan to hire to do the shoot on, as well as hopefully putting together a mini exhibition. If I exceed my initial target of £600 I would like to donate some extra money raised to the windrush foundation charity.
