Help our Methven Scout Group to buy a former local church for us to use to store our tents and camping equipment.

by Kirsty Richards in Methven, Scotland, United Kingdom

New stretch target

The £5000 is a part of what is needed in total to buy the store but is a fantastic start in our fundraising.  Anything extra will be an even bigger help on our way to raising enough funds.  If we don't raise enough overall, the money will be used to look for an alternative storage solution.  If we do raise enough, ideally, the store will be upgraded by re-wiring and also improving the quality of the interior including shelves and cupboards to ensure equipment is stored safely and in an organised manner.  Please be assured that all money raised will be to the benefit of all Group sections.  Thank you.

Who are we?

7th Perthshire Scout Group has been running in Methven for as long as we can remember. Our group has a Beaver Colony, a Cub Pack and a Scout Troop, hundreds of children from the village and surrounding villages have benefitted from it for many years.  We are the largest voluntary organisation in the village and currently have around 75 children and young people attending regularly and it has been running at full capacity for over 7 years.  The group is run solely by volunteers, most of which are from the village or surrounding area and have children who attend one of the sections.

Here's what we want to do...

We would like to secure enough funds to purchase the Scout store.

The former Catholic church has been used as a store by Methven Scouts for over 25 years at no cost.  However, we have now been given the opportunity to purchase it for use as a permanent storage space.  The building is a crucial part of running our group and provides a much needed convenient, dry and secure place to store all of our Scouting equipment including tents and camping gear.  Our Store is also currently used by neighbouring Scout Groups for storage of equipment.   Storage of this camping gear is critical to the function of our group.

How Can You Help?

We would love to have your support to help us buy this building for our Group.  All donations will be gratefully received and much appreciated by our Leaders, volunteers, children and young people.

If we are unable to secure enough funding for the purchase of the building, unfortunately, we may lose it and be left with nowhere to store our equipment.  This may result in a loss or reduction in camping opportunities for the children and young people, which is essential to the activities and experiences that Scouting offers.

Camping trips allow children (and adults) to develop skills such as survival, teamwork and communication as well as boosting confidence when staying away from home.

Our £5000 target is only part of the total amount that is needed to buy the store.  We are seeking other fundraising opportunities for the remainder.  Every penny raised will benefit Methven Scouts, Cubs and Beavers and we appreciate the support.

If we raise enough money, it will be used towards purchasing the store but also to carry out some key maintenance including upgrading the electrics.  Alternatively, it will be used to find an alternative storage option for our group.
