Our Podcast- (click here for ramblings about all this immersive)

Formed in 2018 by Thomas Florence, later fleshed out by Millie Goddard, and finally left brain-dead and broken with the addition of Ivan Orson-Kelly, But Why? have been leaving audiences with that titular question for almost three years. Having performed at the Buxton Fringe Festival, the first ever online Burning Man Festival, and the Broadway Training Academy, But Why? Have indeed built up a steady stream of credits in the online and physical storytelling worlds. But now, the theatrical threesome are hungry to take their work to the next level.

But… and this goes without saying we need your help. Our plans for summer are ambitious. Covid has left the theatrical world battered and bruised, but we haven't let that get us down. We’re desperate to hit the road literally and metaphorically this summer by taking But Why? On a UK tour! (tour name, tattoos, and t-shirts pending)

With your help, we can fund

  • our ambitious project. Taking our Award-Winning show Affinity Initiative & our brand-new top secret immersive concept (in development SHHH)

  • Helping us fight THE BIG DOGS- Those who don’t see our work as valid theatre.

  • Assist with touring to various arts festivals, events, and mafia meetups across the UK.  Each penny you are generous enough to give us will fill up the But Why? coffers and enable us to do so.Of course, this is all directed towards the potential of performing at the big’un- the Edinburgh Fringe.

  • Every bit you can spare will go directly to our art. Ensuring that we have the opportunity to share our stories all across the country and effectively promote. Below you’ll find a basic rundown of our expenses

Transport- £300

Meet the Team

Thomas Florence

Meet the brains, the brawn, the beauty, and the b£%*!$d that is, Thomas Florence. Graduating from LJMU in 2019, Thomas has been the guiding force behind But Why?’s artistic development since he conjured the company whilst hiding from an ex desperate to sell his kidneys. With a dazzling ability to tell stories, Tom is all too excited about the prospect of performing across the UK. Likening the experience to theatrical rock stardom (if such a pretentious juxtaposition could exist that is). Hailing from both rural Yorkshire and the tropical paradise that is Baskingstoke, Tom brings that certain “je ne sais pas putain” to the But Why? team.

Ivan Orson-Kelly

Graduating LJMU in 2020, like Neo, Ivan was wrenched from the comfortable life of the educational matrix and thrust into the covid world. However, this pandemic gut-punch wasn’t enough to slow him down and he’s been working with But Why? from the get-go to develop and tell their stories. With a profound interest in immersive storytelling, Ivan is the tech-guy of the crew. Never one to shy away from a problem (or an exposed plug socket), Ivan takes great pride in being the first of his family to venture down from the safety of the Peak District to bring back forbidden knowledge to his hill folk way back home.

Millie Goddard

Constructed amongst Trident class nuclear submarines in the shipyards of Barrow, Millie Goddard is the resident Swamp Witch of the team. Graduating from LJMU in 2019, Millie has been working with But Why? on a plethora of their stories and experiences as well as her own projects. With a heavy interest in various forms of performance art, Millie brings a certain artistic sensitivity that the other two are profoundly lacking to the mix (along with a love of frogs and organ shaped pottery).

Conclusion

Whilst we do indeed have lofty aspirations, your help and input will be directly utilised in ensuring we edge ever closer to achieving these. We understand not everyone will be able to contribute financially and, whilst i’m secretly furious about this, a share and a shutout is equally as appreciated!

So finally, thanks so so much for getting this far and if you’re still on the fence about donating- But Why?
