My friend Sarah and I are both middle aged ex-school kitchen cooks who would like to give the local people a cafe that’s affordable to all.
A local, relaxed, meeting area for people offering them opportunities to feel good and with various social and craft activities to look forward to on a regular basis. This will hopefully improve their mental health, wellbeing and develop creative skills.
We have invested £20,000 between us to develop this project within a community that has a high unemployment, low incomes and higher than average poverty levels.
We feel people need more opportunities in their local area to help them develop along with occupying their minds.
Physical craft activities are an important part of life for the elderly and vulnerable people who often look forward to taking part in local social meetings. It is a good source of stimulation, along with movement, mobility and much more.
It is clear to see the impact on people's lives this will have when fully up and running with events and activities to choose from.
For us to achieve this to its full potential we need to raise enough funds to develop the coffee lounge further and bring in teaching members of individual crafts. This will allow us to offer craft clubs to an area which would benefit greatly.
We will be taking on between 2 and 10 teaching members along with purchasing all the necessary equipment required to offer the local people a chance to develop new or existing skills while enjoying fresh food and drinks in a comfortable community environment.
We would also use any funds to advertise our craft clubs and services and purchase a coffee machine to give our clients the best value for money and an enjoyable drink when attending the events.
