Bullfinch Brewery Expansion Funding

The Bullfinch Brewery has taken flight but now we need to expand skyward, we want to upgrade our kit so we can make even more beer!

We did it!

On 21st Jun 2016 we successfully raised £8,445 of £8,000 target with 70 supporters in 28 days

New stretch target

We have set our stretch target to £12,000, the extra money will enable us to explore new and exciting product options such as 'canning' beers and even having our own bottling line which is something we are really keen to get stuck into! Our beers are slick and professional but our current website is not doing them justice, we would also like to ugrade and redesign our website so it reflects how good are products actually are.

Thank you so much for all your support.....Ryan, Carly & Dexter xx

The Bullfinch Brewery has already taken flight but now we need to expand skyward, we want to upgrade our kit so that we can make even more beer! The Bullfinch Brewery was set up in 2013 by former sound engineer, beer enthusiast and home brewer Ryan Mclean.

Having spent years living out of a suitcase and travelling the world as a touring sound engineer, Ryan has been lucky enough to witness first hand the ever evolving global craft beer scene.

His travels have ignited a passion for quality, detail and diversity and when combined with his buckets of enthusiasm have created the Bullfinch Brewery and its contemporary take on craft beer here in the UK.

Ryan has been brewing professionally since 2013 and makes progressive beers that combine experimental ideas with traditional brewing methods and techniques.

The Bullfinch Brewery operation started on a very small scale sharing a brewing space and a small brew kit with another brewery in Bermondsey, South East London but he must have made a good impression winning Rate Beers Best New London Brewer in 2014.

However he was forced to take a break in production in order to raise the funds required to set up entirely on his own and find new premises.

In September 2015 he moved into his own space and is now proud to have a 5BL brewery with adjoining Tap Room housed in two railway arches in Herne Hill, South East London in September 2015 which he runs with his wife Carly and dog Dexter!

We believe we are offering more diverse and involved recipes than our competitors and are breaking away from the traditional style guidelines that have been continually adhered to, our main aim is producing forward thinking flavourful beers without compromising on their drinkability.

We currently brew a core range of beers including:

Rascal 4.4% Session IPA

RYPA 5.8% American Hopped Rye IPA

Milou 6% Saison

Wolf 5.8% American Pale Ale

Notorius 7% Black IPA

We also brew an experimental range called the Beta series, which we test out in the tap room and so far this has included:

Figgy Fuggle Dubbel a 7.4% Belgian Dubbel

Lake Street a 5.8% Black Rice IPA &

Luna a 3.8 % Extra Light Pale Ale which has proved to be very successful and is now in commercial production.

We are working as hard as we can and we are making great beer but we know we can do better, we are asking Crowdfunder to help us reach our potential.

We are passionate about this project and have so far emptied our bank accounts, savings, money boxes and liberated coins from the back of several sofas, it isn't easy and every day is presenting a new challenge but we are definitely committed to the craft (beer.)

In order for us to progress and expand we need to have the ability to make more of our beer, more frequently, we currently only have the capacity to brew once or twice a week at the most, and we really need to be brewing four times a week. In real terms, we need to minimise the time spent in between brews, the throughput of our capacity is not just how much beer we can make but more importantly how often we can make it.

Beer takes a determined length of time to ferment and this varies according to beer type, style and strength, so once our current fermenters are full we cannot brew anymore beer until the beer in the current fermenters have finished developing and then packaged. For example Luna is our quickest producer and from start to finish it will spend approximately 10 days in the fermenter on the other hand Notorious will need to be in there for approximately 18 days.

We have a historic 5BL kit which was originally built by Charles Wells, we absolutely love it and are putting to good use but in order to maximise our time and production we need more fermenters in order to eliminate the downtime between brews.

And this is why we need your help.....We need to have more fermenters, more casks, more kegs and more bottles to enable us to upscale our production schedule and get on the next rung of the ladder.

We are getting our products out locally and they look and taste great but we want to develop and widen our sales area and have regional and national stockists too.

We can do this by taking part in showcases, brewers markets, meet the brewer demo's, tap takeovers and beer festivals, we aim to exhibit as much as we can in order to gain more exposure.

In order to do this we need a portable dispensing system , normal beer dispensing systems are an elaborate combination of gas supply to force the beer through the lines, an inline chiller to cool the beer whilst its travelling through the line and a tap to pour and control the flow. A portable dispensing unit, like the Lindr, has all of these things in one small portable box. This would allow us to pour our beers at optimal condition, temperature and freshness anywhere from farmers markets to craft beer expos.

We know what we need to do and we know how to do it, we just need your help!

Thank you for taking the time to look at our campaign, please share it and help us reach.
