I was recently hiking in the Langtang Valley and I met Babu and Gyalmo, a couple who are engaged and want to marry. They lost everything in the earthquake a year ago including their houses, business (Gyalmo had a jewellery business and trained other women in the village), friends and Gyalmo's mum. They are looking after a small guesthouse at the movement (facilities are very basic with only a hose pipe and no toilet), but in May the monsoons come and they leave that job to go and live in what is basically a tent. They desperately want a home again, but cannot afford to build one.
I don't know what happened to the aid we all pledged, but I can tell you that it hasn't reached the people it should have. I know there are lots of people that need help, but I spent time with Babu and Gyalmo and heard their story. We can know that we have made a big difference to two lovely people. Let's build a house! They will send us pictures so we can see progress.
