New stretch target

If succeeding with the (potential) stretch target amount, we have decided to put this towards accommodation at the Fringe.

Several weeks ago we started a Crowdfunder to take our show "Bucket Head" to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I want to thank each and every person that donated, it means so much to us that you believe in our vision and support us! Sending you all so much love.

Due to current circumstances, mainly the uncertainty that the Fringe will actually go ahead, we are going to use all of the money that we have fundraised to pay to take Bucket Head to the festival in 2021, instead of this year. We are putting our plans on ice this year because we want the the show to be the best it can possibly be for our audiences and we don't think we will achieve this in 2020.

There are a number of reasons why. Financially, we can't afford to lose money on marketing a show that may or may not happen, as well as on accommodation, transport and various other costs. We have both lost work ourselves due to the coronavirus which means we have less money to finance the show ourselves. And also, due to social distancing, we will not be able to rehearse together, which is a huge part of the creative process.

We aim to get programmed for 2021 in September and will be using the £375 we have raised from you lovely people to register the show then. We will also be applying for Arts Council Funding when they are next taking applications so that we really can bring this show to communities and help eating disorder sufferers around the country.

Thank you and lots of love,

Elle and Lotty x

Who is Crybaby?
Crybaby Theatre was conjured from the imaginations of designer-producer Elle Money and actor-dancer Lotty Loveridge, who were united in both their love of theatre-making and firm belief it can influence social change.

Crybaby Theatre aims to create playful but powerful work, exploring the vulnerability and messiness in being human. With a blend of performance, multimedia and design, we endeavour to educate, validate and ‘see’ our audiences, while making social commentary. Connectiveness through theatre is at the heart of Crybaby.

About the show 'Bucket Head':
"What if there was a way to stay in control of your life, to be successful, liked by everyone, gain dazzling good looks and never have to eat your greens? To live the perfect life? Daisy has found a way.

‘Bucket Head’ is a story about Daisy and how she develops an eating disorder; how she becomes consumed by an invisible force that only she can feel. It is a story about being good enough, being better, being best, being perfect. A disorder that is so often secretive and hidden away is cracked open and unravelled, somehow still managing to find silliness and light within the darkness. By following the playful, yet poignant journey of Daisy, society’s pursuit of perfection and feelings of inadequacy are illuminated for the audience."

'Bucket Head' is our first show as a company - and we believe it's an important one.

  • Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate among psychiatric disorders.
  • 1.2 to 3.4 MILLION people in the UK are affected by an eating disorder.
                                                                                         (Priory Group).

The show has been supported by Open Source Arts, winning their microgranting initiative to put towards props and costume, as well as performing at Theatre Deli Sheffield's scratch programme, receiving audience feedback such as:

"Moving, honest, humbling..."

"It is an uncomfortable subject but you made it make sense and accessible."

"Completely arresting...beautifully nuanced and believable."

Why are you asking for donations on the internet...?
Good question! We believe in our show and the profound impact theatre can have. We want to take 'Bucket Head' to the Edinburgh Fringe, the largest arts festival in the world, to:

  • Spread education
  • Develop a wide variety of audiences
  • Connect with other industry professionals
  • Use as a springboard into the future of 'Bucket Head' and Crybaby Theatre

There are numerous things to consider when going to the Edinburgh Fringe, including lots of small things that are easy to miss. Everything made on this Crowdfunder will go towards marketing/promotional materials and production expenses, such as:

  • Good quality flyers and posters
  • Promotional stickers
  • Social media advertising
  • Music licensing
  • Replacements for consumable/perishable props
  • Production kit (i.e. tape, wire, pins, etc.)

We hope you feel the importance of education surrounding eating disorders, just as much as we do at Crybaby Theatre. And if you are able to, please consider helping us progress our work and cultivate understanding for a so-often misunderstood condition. Thank you so much for taking time out to browse our page!
