Bro Radio transmitter relocation

We are looking to expand our coverage in the Vale of Glamorgan, allowing us to provide our service and volunteering to the wider community.

We did it!

On 2nd Nov 2015 we successfully raised £290 with 8 supporters in 56 days

Project aim

Bro Radio has been serving Barry and parts of the surrounding areas for almost 7 years and up until this point we have been unable to reach certain other parts in the area. We are now however pleased to say that we are in the process of solving this with an application that has been accepted by OFCOM to move our transmitter, which should lead to improvements in coverage

About the project

Bro Radio is a community radio station which has been serving the area since 2009. As a station we currently cover Barry, Wales largest town, however now in our 6th year we are looking to expand our coverage so that we are able to bring out service to more of the Vale.

The organisation is a Community Interest Company meaning that it is run for the social gain of the community, with all profits going back into the organisation, its volunteering opportunities and community initiatives. The station currently supports a team of 30 active volunteers who receive training from the organisation to create locally orientated programming for the community we serve.

Over our time on air we have seen the need for our service across the wider Vale of Glamorgan and through research we have discovered that we will be able to do this by relocating our transmitter to a more prominent location in Barry, which should drastically improve our FM coverage both in the area we already cover, whilst also allowing us to stretch further across the wider Vale of Glamorgan.

As well as offering a vital radio and local news service for residents, the transmitter move will have major benefits for the area by allowing us to expand the opportunities we can provide to the community and by expanding our coverage area we hope to be able to increase the participation and involvement of the wider community, by offering more volunteering and training opportunities at the stations industry standard studios.

After almost 7 years on air, we now see this as vital in securing our long term future and hope you will join us on this journey.

How you can help

We are seeking your support as without it we will not be able to make this happen. Donation via our Crowd Funder page can be as big or as small as you wish, with each supporter recieving recognition.

We really hope that you can see the potential impact this move could have, whether you are an exsisting, future listener, advertiser or supporter of the station. We hope that you will continue to support the station and its growth, and that you will share this with your friends, family or other businesses to make sure that we can continue to do what we do for the community.
