In this Centenary year of women getting the vote, I am proud to have sculpted a portrait bust of the famous Mancunian Mrs Emmeline Pankhurst . It is cast in resin and currently on display at The Pankhurst Centre , in Nelson St.,Manchester and funds are needed to cast it into REAL bronze!
Emmeline helped women win the right to vote, and started her Women's Movement from the very building that was her home and is now named the Pankhurst Centre....a vibrant, small charity based museum and heritage centre that hosts organisations and projects that support women. It's also a community centre for women providing spaces and activities run by women for women.
As a female sculptor, I am delighted to have created this sculpture, BUT the only problem with resin is it can't be displayed outdoors! I'm looking to raise funds to pay for the casting of the sculpture into REAL bronze which would be then set on a beautiful real stone plinth, and located in the newly landscaped gardens at The Pankhurst Centre that are to be completed this summer 2018- THE CENTENARY YEAR OF WOMEN'S VOTES.
If it's cast into real bronze it will be a lasting legacy and visitors will be able to get close up and personal with a portrait of one British history's TRUE heroines. It will mean people will be able have their photos taken alongside her (difficult with huge statues!) and will enable visitors from Manchester, the UK and even the rest of the world see a lasting memorial to this truly inspirational, brave British woman who changed the course of women's lives forever.
