Just contacted the organisers. I think that there should be a speedy launch of a defence campaign in the light of somebody being arrested for this :-)

Everyone should be entitled to fair representation, I fully support the good intentions that the protesters had in the felling of Colston. I hope that prosecution is avoided at all costs but wish everyone the best of luck if it does happen. Bristol, I feel proud to call you home. X

I support the removal of the statue in protest. I believe that it was an important and powerful action in the fight against racism and the reform of our institutions in the UK.

Ivan Hatvany 17th June 2020

Unless an individual has committed a violent act against another person I think in regard to the Colston statue they shouldn’t face sanctions

Jolana Curejova 16th June 2020

I hope the protesters will be saved from any injustice and receive the praise they deserve for their courage to stand up to centuries long racism.

Derek Brown 15th June 2020

As a Black Man, I have been encouraged with the support from all communities to raise the damaging consequences of racism in the UK, that moment brought a global historic lesson of some of the UKs actions in the slave trade. The toppling of the Edward Colston's statue should be remembered as a fight back against racism not the criminalisation of the good people who felt the hurt of the silent sufferers and did something about it.

Pat Macdonald 12th June 2020

Colston’s dunking was a key historical moment. Hope it’s never forgotten and I would gladly pay all the fines myself if I could.

Kat Marsh 12th June 2020

I’ve lived in Bristol for 10 years and I’m so proud of the protestors, the young organisers and the people who acted courageously and made history that day. I hope there are zero repercussions for the action you took that so many of us support, but if not we are right behind you.

No one should be prosecuted for doing something that has been needed for years to allow the black people of Bristol to have dignity, and to allow the possibility of healing for the whole community.
