I am a big supporter of amputees needing peer support to help them come to terms with their loss and understand the possibilities of what they will be able to achieve following amputation.
As of March 2020 we have been unable to provide day trips, coffee mornings, weekends away, home visits, hospital visits and one to one support. Due to this we started online social group through social media which has daily activities including yoga & exercises, quizzes, bingo, group discussions and chats, games nights and more. From doing this we can see the impact on those people isolated without any device that can get online to gain support or interact socially with others.
My colleagues and I now understand that there are so many people unable to access online help and support due to not having or understanding the technology that can keep them interacting with others, especially through this uncertain time of the current pandemic that may be around for many years to come. We have decided to try and raise funds so we are able to distribute electronic tablets and provide online training for those who have been unable to access the internet to gain online support, digital inclusion, access to the internet and most importantly social interaction.
