You've probably seen Brighton School of Samba rumble past on parade at one of many free events across Brighton, Hove and beyond over the past nine years. Your feet will have tapped along as our fast, Rio style samba and costumes bring a carnival vibe to the city at events like Burning the Clocks, Kemptown carnival, Brighton Pride and Brighton Festival, giving free entertainment to hundreds of thousands of people.
Our van of the past 9 years sadly had to be scrapped just after Pride this summer. It was essential for transporting our instruments and costumes for our weekly drum and dance workshops. It also got us to and from all the performances we appear at, as well as enabling us to go into schools and businesses to teach many different people how to play samba.
We need to raise funds for a replacement van by the end of September so that we can continue. The School and its members have contributed so far, and we also have this crowdfund page as another way for us to reach our target. See below for a breakdown of our target.
We need to buy the van by the end of September when we re-start classes for the Autumn/Winter term. This term leads up to 'Burning the Clocks' parade at Christmas and it's important that new members can learn and get ready for this big annual parade.
Any and all money raised will contribute to a replacement van. Any extra money we raise above the target means a better quality, longer-lasting van. By contributing to our van fund you are helping us to continue for another ten years entertaining you and our wonderful city of Brighton & Hove!
