At MVA's Befriending Project we are passionate about helping isolated and lonely people to connect with the wider community, make genuine friendships, and find new things that they enjoy and that makes their lives worthwhile and satisfying.
Bridging the Divide is a way to connect people who have no access to the internet with other people and new interests; to enable them to learn and grow.
There are few things so wonderful as seeing the smile on the face of someone on zoom who sees another human face after months of isolation; please help us to ensure that more people can experience this joy!
Music Man- a fantastic organisation working with adults with learning disabilities- referred Cathy to us for a tablet. This is what they said:
"A few weeks ago we applied to the Medway Voluntary Action ‘Bridging the Divide’ scheme for one of our most isolated performers to receive a Tablet. We were thrilled that our nomination was successful and today we spent some time teaching Cathy how to access our weekly zoom sessions and other online resources. Needless to say she was really excited now that she is finally able to stay connected with her friends at Music Man Project!"
Other recipients so far have included asylum seekers, people with different mental health or physical disabilities, single parents, people recovering from substance abuse who are trying to get their lives back on track...
We managed to get funding for 20 initial tablets- but had referrals for more than double that number before they had even arrived. It is so awful having to choose which person is suffering more than another...
If you could donate to our appeal, the funds will go straight to extending this project; this means buying more tablets, getting more sim cards- and making more people's lives feel worthwhile.
