Hello, my name is Emma
At 26 years old, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. As part of my treatment plan, I underwent chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy.
As I began my treatment, I tested positive for the BRCA1 gene. Up until this point, I had hoped for a lumpectomy. However, after being told I had an 85% chance of cancer returning, I had no choice but to undergo a double mastectomy. Subsequent radiotherapy treatment meant that I could not have immediate reconstruction.
Once recovered and ready for reconstruction, I was told that my BMI was too high and that I needed to lose weight. I have reached my goal weight. Now, Covid 19 has delayed breast reconstruction for thousands of women.
I am no more deserving than any other woman. But at 30 years old, this is having a detrimental effect to my mental health. I am a student nurse wanting to give back to the NHS. By paying for reconstruction means I can finally have closure and to be able to live my life to the fullest.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
