Whilst there is an increased awareness in mental health issues, little attention is being given to mental health disorders suffered by young people with learning difficulties and disabilities, particularly those living in rural communities. This pilot project aims to address this issue and create a range of activities and coping strategies that can be used nationally to support these vulnerable young people.
Battling On uses armed forces veterans to act as mentors. These mentors will work with these isolated young people to build self-confidence and esteem in the following ways.
Supporting the young people to develop coping strategies and emotional resilience.
Reducing their social isolation by facilitating team building activities to develop friendships.
Teaching them to use digital skills safely to remain connected post project.
