For those not aware, Braunton Cricket club has been run by its players since January this year who have been volunteering to work behind the bar and do all the large and small jobs which keep the club going for the community and the love of the sport of Cricket. Without this the club would be in serious danger of closing.
Thanks to their passion and commitment so far the progress has been great and a great thank you to all customers (new and old) for supporting us by popping in to the club and having a drink and having your parties in the club house.
A few weeks back Andrew "Woody" Wood proposed that something challenging should be done to raise some money for the village assett that is the Cricket Club with the money going towards future refurbishments to the clubhouse and general improvements. It was decided that a walk would be conducted from Minehead (the start of the beautiful South West Coastal Path) to the clubhouse covering 60 miles and over 9,000 feet in elevation. Fully self sustained (carrying sleeping equipment and shelter plus the all important money for food... and beer) taking three days to cover in total (20 miles a day)
So... we are nearly there! The boys (Woody and Bobby) will set off on their journey this Friday (8th April) at approximately 10am from Minehead and return to the clubhouse at around 5 to 6pm Sunday 10th April. Their route plan is:
Friday- Minehead - Lynmouth
Saturday- Lynmouth - Ilfracombe/ Woolacombe (TBC, see Braunton Cricket Facebook for updates)
Sunday- Ilfracombe/ Woolacombe - Braunton Cricket Club
All via the South West Coastal Path
Please feel free to join them on this incredible journey and cheer them on. Donations would be greatly appreciated and please try and be at the clubhouse on Sunday 10th April from 4pm (we open at 12pm) to cheer them in and have a drink.
