To replace hazardous floodlights so older members play bowls in the evenings and winter. Aviva grant is needed to reach total cost of £25k

Lancaster Cricket and Sports Club has three main sections - bowls, cricket and tennis – is the largest multi-sport Club in Lancaster.  It also offers a social membership scheme and hosts Lancaster Hockey Club.   It is located near the Marsh Estate which is one of the most deprived areas in Lancaster. The bowls section works hard to attract new members and is especially committed to providing bowling playing opportunities for local residents and older people - with 70 active and enthusiastic members playing in eleven teams locally. In recent years we have also targeted younger players, by holding ‘try bowls’ sessions,The Club has one of the largest memberships in the Lancaster and Morecambe area with very active teams and tournaments, including high profile regional events.    In recent years all the teams have enjoyed success but the Club’s overall aim is to provide a suitable bowling venue for all age groups, and in particular the two veteran teams.  A number of Club members are over 80 years old and all are keen for continued social and active bowling in the winter months. We fear that without the improved floodlighting - which is the focus of this grant application - our older players will not be able to enjoy their bowls games for much of the autumn and winter.
