Hello. My name is Kristie and I'm a third year graphic design student at UWE Bristol. I am currently doing an extended study on the topic of Fringe with a focus on contemporary conflicts, displacement and hostile/rebel architecture.
Border Nation is an extension of this ongoing project and in collaboration with a coursemate, Kelly Yeung whose topic is Identity, Border Nation represents the people currently displaced by the Middle Eastern conflicts, those living in refugee camps along the borders, on the run to a better place or fighting for their lives in the conflict zone. We would like to raise awareness of this issue by highlighting Europe's migrant crisis amd the impact of the conflict through a series of five installations, three of which are interactive. The exhibition will feature a range of mixed media works, using processes/techniques like arduino, kinect sensor image mapping, laser cutting, lighting, sculpting and design.
We hope that with this exhibition, it will make a positive impact on the way we view these refugees and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Your donations will go towards the purchase of materials, bringing the designed products to life as well as hiring of the exhibition space. There is no admission fee for the exhibition so if you are in the area, do come and visit!
