The Gower Sea Rowing Club are a new community-based, amateur sports club with a growing membership run by volunteers. We borrow a celtic long boat from the Welsh Sea Rowing Association at present but this will need to be returned at the end of the season. We need to raise £3300 to access a grant form Sport Wales to enable us to buy our first boat at a cost of £15K. We meet three times a week to train and participate in league races across Wales and Europe. The club has brought together people from all kinds of backgrounds; disabled and able bodied, black and white, young and old. This coming together has fostered a real sense of community, tolerance and understanding amongst people whilst enabling us to get fit, learn about sea safety and truly appreciate the delicate ecosystem of the marine environment. We collect any floating plastic litter we find while out rowing! The club has brought mental wellbeing to all those who join; we reduce social isolation for older people and help people relieve stress and anxiety through exercise. Our long-term aim is to be a self-sustaining club able to provide exhilarating experiences of rowing at sea for anyone who wants to join us. But, without a boat our club will fold. Please help.
