Hello People!! Blue Lab Beats here :)

On June 17th we released our 2nd EP ‘Freedom’. Part of British underground music, ‘Freedom’ is a unified blend of traditional jazz instrumentation underpinned by understated hip-hop production.

We have had masses of requests from fans to release our music on vinyl and thats what we want to do for you with this EP!

Our duo is made up of producer NK-OK and multi-instrumentalist Mr DM. (He's learning clarinet at the moment by the way!)

Blue Lab Beats was born out of a desire to create a sample-free sound.  Beats are born in the tiny North West London bedroon studio, the ‘Blue Lab’  and musicians, rappers and singers drop in there apart from when we have been lucky enough to record at Real World Studio  in Bath and Livingstone Studio in Wood Green.

Freedom offers a snapshot into our Blue Lab World. This 5-part EP is interwoven with features from an eclectic range of emerging UK talent including Kojey Radical, Tiana Major9, Nubya Garcia and Louis VI.

Stand-out tracks  for some are Keep Moving, Sam Cooke & Marvin Gaye as well as title track Freedom but fans are already choosing their personal favourites. We have  broad range of influences from Hip Hop greats such as A Tribe Called Quest, Pete Rock, Knxwlege, grime artists Wiley, Wretch 32 and Kano through to jazz legends Milt Jackson and Oscar Peterson

Freedom follows the success of our debut EP ‘Blue Skies’ which brought widespread critical acclaim; peaking in the top 10 in the jazz charts both in UK, across Europe and in Japan. Our session for Jazz FM got over 500k views on the Jazz Fm Facebook page in a week and we seem to have caught the attention of prominent tastemakers Afropunk, who love our music! Blue Lab Beats has been described as an undeniable force of the new emerging London jazz sound.

“What do you get when you combine electric guitar, synth bass, a hip hop sensibility and two young musicians with a world imagination? The answer is Blue Lab Beats”

“Hip-hop grooves and interwoven hooks that nodded to the late J Dilla and to Robert Glasper, as well as influences from London’s booming young jazz, hip-hop and neo-soul-steeped underground”
