A contemporary adaptation of Lorca's 'Blood Wedding' to open the Autumn Season 2018 of the award winning Clapham Omnibus Theatre.

by George Richmond-Scott in London, England, United Kingdom

New stretch target

If we  can reach our stretch target we will be able to cover the fees for our set designer, dialect coach and workshop partner!

Help us launch our brand new adaptation of BLOOD WEDDING and  a linked storytelling workshop. The project will unite British and Spanish artists and audiences to champion cross-cultural collaboration in our current climate.

Lorca’s classic account of familial conflict and fated love will open the Autumn Season at the Omnibus Theatre.

The story is re-imagined in the Spanish population of  London 2018. It focuses on the Mother's viewpoint. Challenges of living in the capital right now underscore the tragedy of the original.

The production will be a theatre experience, spilling into the theatre café in the interval where tapas and live original music composed and played by the actors will create an authentic Spanish wedding party atmosphere.

Audiences will be engaged in debate through pre-show talks by Lorca experts and post-show Q&As.

Through storytelling workshops we will create a platform for validation, facilitating sharing of participants’ stories using newly learned flamenco skills. We want to give voice to the voiceless as Lorca did himself.            He insisted, ‘theatre must capture the pulse, the drama of its people.’

We will engage local schools and charities including:

2 sessions with Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers, collaborating with storyteller Sally Pomme Clayton.
1 session with the Love to Learn teenage group at the Katherine Low Settlement Charity.
These participants will receive free tickets and transport to the play.

>Raise awareness of how the current political situation is affecting European residents in the UK.
>Explore a classic through a new lens, highlighting the complexity of the female characters.
>Engage actively with community charity groups and develop new and established audiences for the theatre.
>Foster stimulating collaborative links between artists, partners and community.

If we can reach our target it will cover hire of the theatre space and the rehearsal room for the whole project!
