Our team (Blackheath Bootcamp) updated our first aid certificates this week (May 2021) and we were reminded on the course of the stats on saving someone suffering a heart attack or cardiac arrest. Getting a AED (defibrillator) quick is absolutely critical. Providing a shock using a defibrillator before the arrival of emergency medical services increases chance of survival. Each minute of delay can reduce the survival rate by 10%. EVERY SECOND COUNTS! Obviously we have amazing NHS ambulance and paramedics and calling them is ALWAYS the first action but it could help save someone’s life if the community had a defibrillator by the heath.
The Princess of Wales Pub are also passionate about having a local AED and have offered to host it inside the pub. The AED will be able to be accessed from there by the community whenever the pub is open (generally 11am-11pm daily).
If you are able to support this crowd fund then you might very well be directly responsible for saving someone’s life. Knowing that your donation (however small) put a life saving box on the wall is something to be proud of. Of course at Bootcamp we are helping people to improve and maintain their health so for us helping to fund a community defibrillator is about a commitment to the wider Blackheath community that share the village and the heath with us.
