BlackBox Theatre Company - BOUNCERS

BlackBox Theatre Company, headed by Chris Hawley, is aiming to bring great theatre to smaller communities in and around Hampshire.

We did it!

On 26th Aug 2017 we successfully raised £735 with 16 supporters in 28 days

BLACKBOX THEATRE COMPANY

black box theatre n.  A simple indoor performance space, typically designed to provide flexibility in the configuration of the stage and the audience seating.

Writer and director, Chris Hawley, has set up this exciting new, professional theatre company in Hampshire with the  aim of bringing great quality productions to smaller and rural communities and to encourage not only regular theatre goers to attend but also those that either haven’t been to the theatre before, i.e. younger or disadvantaged people or who find it impossible to attend larger theatres due to financial hardship or find it difficult to travel outside of their own area because of disability or age related problems. The idea is to bring the theatre to the audience.

In the autumn, BlackBox will be touring John Godber’s classic comic drama, BOUNCERS to village halls, community centres, smaller theatre spaces, schools, arts centres and one or two more unusual venues across Hampshire and beyond - even including a night on the old Cross Channel Hovercraft.

THE PLAY

Set in 1984, BOUNCERS tells the story of a typical northern nightclub and the colourful characters that inhabit its dancefloor.

It’s Friday night and the weekend’s here … so, put on your dancing shoes … it’s going to be a night to remember!

Maureen and the girls are having their hair done. Barry and the lads are ‘down the pub’ getting a few drinks in.  And Ralph, Les, Judd and Lucky Eric are manning the doors at the town’s hottest nightspot … Mr Cinders.

Full of sharp one liners, 80s dancefloor classics and a host of extraordinary characters – all played by just 4 actors – BOUNCERS will transport you back to those heady days of big shoulder pads and even bigger hair dos. Hysterically funny, with a touch of pathos and a whole load of nostalgia thrown in, this hilarious play takes a look at urban nightlife through the eyes our eponymous ‘heroes’.

You’ll laugh, you’ll cry … you’ll be dancing in the aisles!

WHY CROWD FUNDING?

We're fortunate to already have our tour dates in place, some Arts Council/Lottery Funding and the support of local businesses, The Nuffield Theatre and Ferneham Hall here in Fareham.  However, putting on a show, even a relatively small scale tour as this, is phenomenally expensive.  Staging, sound and lighting equipment, wages, van hire, insurance, rehearsal rooms, printing ... the list goes on and on.

By donating through CROWDFUNDER, you will help realise our vision and make this, our first full production, a truly memorable show.

We hope you'll join us in this exciting journey.  From all of us, a huge 'thank you' and we look forward to seeing you at one of our shows

So what are you waiting for?

‘Celebrate good times … COME ON!’
